Cozy Christmas Home Tour 2016

HomeTour18_650
Good morning everyone! Today I am sharing an inside tour of my home during the holiday season along with a couple other bloggers. I'm always excited to share this post every year, but it is ALSO a lot of work and I will admit... it is 10:00 p.m. the night before I need to publish this and I am now just sitting down to write it. I had THAT many photos to edit and interior photos are my least fave to edit, because the lighting is just never perfect! Boo! But, it was all worth it and now let's dive and and explore my home!! In this first photo shown above, you'll see I have my front door open (you can kind of see the monogram on the door in the center) and a glimpse of my tree.

HomeTour4
You'll see in the foyer I have a stand with a snowman on it that used to have fiber optic lights, but it won't light up anymore... I can't seem to part with it, tho. My momma got one for my brother and I... and, she has one, too! You'll see I've decorated my chalkboard easel for Christmas!

HomeTour2
Here is a view of our entire living room, my favorite room to decorate. This year I decided to change up the ribbon on our tree and I also made a new bow for the top. I also made four other bows to match the one on the tree and they are placed in various areas in the house. I've been trying to go more neutral with my decor, so I thought a gold/cream colored ribbon would look beautiful on the tree. It goes really well with the colors of the couches in the room, too!

HomeTour30
Speaking of Christmas neutrals, doesn't my new MacBook Pro skin go great with the rest of the decor? I went with the Gold and White skin from CaseApp. Last year I went with a Christmas-themed skin, CaseApp has so many different designs to pick from! I love adding a little pizazz to the top of my MacBook!

I know a lot of bloggers have matchy match trees, but I mainly just try to match the ribbon and tinsel. Maybe one day I will take the time to add an additional tree to our home and it will all match. :) It is a goal of mine! Our tree is filled with ornaments that were mine as a kid, that an aunt of mine used to make, from ornament exchange parties over the year, ornaments the kids and I DIY'ed or that I just DIY'ed, the kids ornaments and... well, I could go on and on. This first ornament I am sharing is of Autumn's handprint and we made each finger into a snowman. The other ornaments in the photo on the right show a pink/silver ball which was my great aunt Dot's and a gold glittery reindeer that I got at an ornament exchange at my last job.

Another view of my tree, up close.

HomeTour19
I also made this ruffled burlap skirt for my tree a couple of years ago. I am still in love with it!

HomeTour5
Next up is this coffee table/reading nook. I always prop up books against it, so the kids can read whatever books fit with that particular season/holiday.

HomeTour14
This year I decided to add a pillow behind the books, so they could lay on the floor and read (which is what they do anyway!).

HomeTour15
I usually add just a few ornaments to this table and this Santa dish that I've had for awhile. This table holds a few of our Paris memorabilia, so it is special to me.

HomeTour16
I always add some candy to the dish, these Peppermint Bark dark chocolate squares are from my blog friend Lauren.

HomeTour11
On our coffee table, I always have a 3-wick candle from Bath & Body Works (they're my fave).

HomeTour12
This Fireside candle has a nice rustic scent to it, I enjoy burning it every now and then.

HomeTour6I found this mistletoe at the grocery store (why do I always buy stuff from their floral department?! make me stop!) a few years ago and Brian always hangs it up and gives me a kiss!

HomeTour3
Now we are done with the living room and will walk past the hallway and into the family room/kitchen area. This wreath on the door is a Monogram Initial Tinsel Wreath that I made last year, I just love it!

Console16_650
This console table is new this year for Christmas and I just had the best time decorating it! You can see a whole post dedicated to it HERE with many more photos!

HomeTour32
Just wanted to share a photo of how well my Gold and White MacBook Pro skin blends into the holiday decor this year!

HomeTour29
CaseApp also sent me a new iPhone6 Plus case in their Flowers design! I even added my monogram to the bottom of it.

HomeTour1
In the kitchen, you'll see my planter box that I decorated for Christmas (full deets HERE). We are doing the Elf on the Shelf (we have 2 elves and a pet reindeer) and Advent calendars each day with the kids.

HomeTour20
There is also a buffet rack in the kitchen that I enjoy decorating each season.

A couple of close-ups from the buffet rack:
HomeTour21
I have a Christmas card holder and every year I add our Christmas card to it. It is fun to look at all of the cards from previous years.

HomeTour23
I always include some of the kids crafts from school on the buffet rack.

HomeTour22
I got this pedestal plate at Kohls YEARS ago and it is always fun to dress up.

HomeTour28
We have a large coffee table and I have a gold mirror tray that I purchased from Hobby Lobby awhile ago that I decorate for each season. I usually enjoy my hot tea from this couch and sometimes some Christmas candy!

HomeTour25
If you are looking for a small gift for a family member or friends or even a stocking stuffer for a loved one, then consider a custom iPhone case from CaseApp this holiday season! CaseApp has cases for iPhones, Samsung, MacBooks, iPads, iPad Minis and more! And, a custom laptop skin for a special someones laptop also makes a great gift!

HomeTour31
Ok, we are to the last decorated piece in my house... my bar cart! I mainly just wanted to share my cart, because I love it so much... but, I did put an adorable fox next to it. There was a year when foxes were all the rave (was that 2 years ago?) and I got this cutie at Target.

You can also SAVE 25% on your CaseApp order with the code CURLYCRAFTYMOMXMAS20!

Creating a Wider Doorway

My kitchen has no outside walls. That means it has no windows directly to the outdoors. UGH. I love light, I love sunshine streaming through windows and lighting up my house. This was not the case in my kitchen. Last year I renovated the space and added a pass through window in one of the walls.  Now the sun can reach the kitchen - hooray!!  But it is still not a terribly well-lit space. Cue my desire to open the wall between the living and dining rooms - the dining room is the brightest room in the house.  That, however, will be a big job because the wall is a supporting wall (at least I'm treating it that way, even if the building inspector didn't think it was).  I decided to tackle the opening from the living room into the kitchen instead since I know for sure that wall isn't supporting. 5 Ways to Bring Spring Into Your Home

The weather here in St. Louis has gone from 70 degrees to tornado watches/warnings and now to possible snow/ice this weekend. Whew! I am SO ready for Spring and for Daylight Saving Time. Today I'm sharing with you how to bring Spring to your home sooner with 5 Ways To Bring Spring Into Your Home . Bringing a little Spring into your home is rather easy. You don't need to change up your entire decor, at least not yet... What I try to do is add little touches here and there. 1. Spring Wreaths One way that I bring Spring into my home is by placing a Spring wreath on my front door or on some of the interior doors in the home. My absolute favorite Spring wreath that I've done is my Split Pea Wreath below, but I'm currently working on a Tulip wreath which I'll be sharing in a couple of weeks! I'm also sharing a couple of other Spring wreaths that I've made below: Split Pea Wreath with Burlap Bow Some other Spring wreaths I've designed:   Simple Spring Hoop Wrea...

Open House Sundays #10 - Cloches & Lavender

Welcome to Open House Sundays where we get a personal invitation to tour through a different blogger's house every week! This week's tour is courtesy of Cindy from Cloches and Lavender .  Cindy is one of the first bloggers I met when I began blogging, her home is brand new (she just moved in earlier this year) and it is GORGEOUS.  Cindy has the best faux painting skills in blogland.  Her pieces are beautifully done using appliqués in a lot of cases - they truly look antique!   Enjoy this Christmas tour of her new home! ***************** Read more »
